The inspiration behind Lucy and Angie begins with the creative life of Lucille Salling, affectionately known as Lucy. A woman of many talents, Lucy's life was rich with family camping trips, culinary creations, and explorations of art and culture around the world. Her Swedish and Danish heritage deeply influenced her life, including her dedication to NUTJA—a concept of simple, purposeful living that emphasized creativity, connection, and joy.

For the last two decades of her life, Lucy devoted herself to the art of stitchery, crafting intricate, mural-sized works that celebrated the warmth of storytelling. She had a knack for transforming luxurious fabrics and fine threads into masterpieces, inspired by the storytelling style of Martha Mood. Her smaller works, showcased in Redbook magazine, brought her artistic vision to a wider audience, making her a successful creative entrepreneur. Lucy’s love for stitching as a form of expression lives on through LA fab, where her legacy continues to inspire new generations of artists and crafters.

Meet Angie: The Heart and Soul of Lucy and Angie

Behind Lucy and Angie is a dynamic and passionate leader, Angela Byers—known to her friends as Angie. Angie’s journey with stitching began at the age of nine, under the loving guidance of her Mammaw Lucy. These early experiences planted the seeds for Angie’s lifelong love of fiber arts, offering her a foundation in resilience, innovation, and creativity.

In her career, Angie has become a recognized figure in marketing and branding as the Founder and CEO of Byers Creative, a full-service global agency known for its innovative strategies. Honored as Tulsa’s “Woman of Distinction” and “Small Business Person of the Year,” Angie has combined her deep artistic roots with a background in fine art and graphic design to create fabric-based art that captures the essence of painting with fibers.
